A Meissen plate, circa 1740

Painted in Famille verte style with a phoenix and butterflies above peonies and other flowers, within a brocade band with chrysanthemums, reserved with panels painted with butterflies, the gilt-edged rim moulded with basketwork panels, 25.3cm diam., crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, painter's mark S in iron-red,impressed numeral 21 (very minor wear)
