These doors were commissioned for the Cathedral Church of Christ in Marina, Lagos, by the family of Chief Dr. Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi in 2013. The Majekodunmis approached the renowned Nigerian artist and architect, Demas Nwoko. The commission was completed in 2015, however, due to an expansion of the wood, the doors were never installed.
The doors were created in the artist's studio in Asaba, Delta State. Carved from Apa wood, they are 75mm thick, 284.5cm tall and 167.6cm wide.
The design concept was inspired by the Biblical account of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. The left leaf depicts Christ's followers receiving the Holy Spirit. The right leaf depicts Christ rising from a field of lilies.
