A MUGHAL GREYISH-WHITE JADE BOWL

India, 18th century
The deep vessel set on a short tapering foot, finely carved to the exterior with narrow chrysanthemum petals terminating in stylised foliate designs, within hatch pattern borders at the rim and above the foot, the semi-translucent stone with dark grey and creamy mottling and striations. 17.2cm (6 3/4in) diam.

The carving of the narrow chrysanthemum petals and stylised foliate terminals closely compare with the designs depicted on a pale green bowl illustrated in Exquisite Beauty. Islamic Jades, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 2007, p.124, no.150.

器灰玉質,口沿及腹壁最下方各琢一周莨苕葉紋,並連以垂直弦紋,與台北國立故宮博物館所藏故玉3885,平口葉形雙柄盌其上之裝飾極似;見鄧淑蘋主編《國色天香——伊斯蘭玉器》,台北,2007年,頁124,編號150。
