Sale; Christie's, London, 13 July 2000, lot 185
With Clark Art Ltd, Cheshire, where acquired by the present owner
The present lot is one of a series of paintings executed by Terry Frost in the early 1960s while living in Banbury which were inspired by road signs. These paintings, with new, harsher shapes and colours also drew inspiration from the heraldic imagery inspired by the flags on show in the chapel at Compton Wynyates. These paintings are referenced in D. Lewis, Terry Frost, Lund Humphries, 2000, p. 107.
