Footnotes
Mathew Street, in Liverpool, England, is best known as being the location of the famous Cavern Club, opened in 1957, where The Beatles played almost 300 times between 1961 and 1963.
Each year Mathew Street is visited by thousands of tourists who visit the Cavern Club and many surrounding attractions, including a statue of John Lennon, a Beatles store, the Liverpool Beatles Museum and several pubs formerly frequented by the band.
It is believed this style of street sign dates from the early 1900s and many such signs were still in situ in the 1960s.
