An ivory netsuke of two demons
By Gyokusen, Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
The adult demon seated with a smaller demon clambering over his shoulder, his left hand unwrapping a cloth partially covering the small, portable long chest carried around his neck, the cloth decorated with Shoki the Demon-queller at one end, the long tobacco pouch at his waist inscribed with the warning Hiyojin (Beware of fire); signed Gyokusen. 3.4cm (1 3/8in) long.
