Ghubara - End Section
Xenolithic L5 chondrite
Al Wusta, Sultanate of Oman, Southern Arabia
Found in 2008, the Ghubara meteorite exhibits an intriguing lithology with numerous clasts and inclusions which provide links to enstatite chondrites. A 2018 study of the meteorite concluded that a large impact event about 470 million years ago on an L5-chondrite asteroid released, redistributed and trapped gases of solar winds, and fragmented differentiated chondritic rock on the Ghubara meteorite's parent body. These multiple inclusions lead to the xenolithic definition of the Ghubara meteorite. The present 297-gram end section of Ghubara is polished to a mirror-like finish; the reverse side is dotted with metallic inclusions. Weighing approximately 297 grams and measuring 79 x 92 x 18mm (3.11 x 3.62 x 0.71 in)
