The Eight Immortals is a group of Daoist Immortals in Chinese mythology. Each Immortal's power can be transferred to an attribute that can bestow life or destroy evil. Their identities varied before becoming Immortals, including aristocrats, scholars, officials, Daoist monks, vagrants; therefore, they represented multiple auspicious signs such as prosperity, longevity, achievement in the government and culture.

Compare with a similar bowl, Qianlong mark and of the period, which was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 11 July 2020, lot 3621.
