Footnotes

These two panels may belong to a larger group of 'hundred boys' embroidered display panels. Compare with a large panel embroidered with one hundred boys at play, Qing Dynasty, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, which is illustrated in the Corpus of Chinese Fabric, Embroidery and Finery, Tianjin, vol.2, 2004, no.221.
