Rare "Cathedral Window" Pattern Opalized Conk Wood--"Butterfly Wings"
Bonanza Mine, Virgin Valley, Nevada
"Conk Wood" opal is considered to be the most collectible of all Virgin Valley opal: in this present example one can clearly see the replacement of the cellular structure of the original limb in a pattern which is known as "cathedral window" due to the colorful opal seen within the cells. The present offering, consisting of two consecutive slices from a limb, is a museum quality example worthy of the attention of any serious collector and, in our opinion, the finest pair to be offered at public auction. Polished on both sides, they could equally be mounted as a unique pair of ear pendants. Weighing approximately 109.50 carats total. Measuring 59.19 x 33.18 x 4.6mm and 59.58 x 32.28 x 4.80mm (2)
