To pay homage to the traditional Japanese craftsmanship, Chopard announced a special collaboration with Japan's well acclaimed "Living National Treasure" Kiichiro Masumura in 2008.

Kiichiro Masumura is a master of urushi painting, an unique type of lacquering art. It involves extracting sap from Urushi tree, and it can only be harvested in extremely small quantities each year. The resin would then be sat for years before it can be used for painting. In order to achieve the astonishing effect, the craftsman has to applied the lacquer layer by layer. Not only is it time consuming, but also a work of art that requires years of experiences.

Due to the complexity of execution, only the most delicate work of horology is the match of such high level of traditional technique. The present L.U.C XP Urushi Goldfish is a rare combination of heritages from both eastern and western culture.
