The Mercator model was launched in 1994 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Gerardus Mercator's death. The famous Flemish cartographer presented the Mercator projection, which then became the standard map projection for navigation. Each dial of the Mercator series depicts a part of the map drawn by Gerardus Mercator in 1587. The present dial represents the map of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Mercator model applies dual retrograde indication. The hour and minute hands each moves along an arc and when it reaches the end, it jumps back to the beginning position. To its wearer, Mercator model does not just evoke an association with the history, it is also an interesting piece to play with.
