Long before Santos, the first mass-produced wristwatch, was introduced in 1904, Cartier carved outa reputation as as a master of decorative desk clocks. With its jeweller background, Cartier have been creating clocks integrating horology and exceptional taste. Some clocks made in guilloché enamel with multiple complications are particularly sought-after today. These clocks are not only decorations on desk, but also represent finest level of watchmaking and art. Apart from that, Cartier also collaborated with Maurice Coüet to create the famous mystery clock, which mechanisms were hidden in the frame and the dial appears to be floating. With more and more pieces produced, Cartier's experience and reputation in clocks have become very important in the entire history of watch- and clock making.
