Footnotes
Hadji Mollah Mohammed Hassan Mohtasham was one of the great master weavers of 19th century Persia. His workshop was located in Kashan, Central Persia - a centre of weaving excellence and ancient craftsmanship. Scholars have suggested that Hassan Mohtasham invented this fine and very tight weaving method using white cotton warp threads and double wefts. The detailed designs echoed ancient landmarks in Kashan -including the 16th century Royal Gardens of Kashan.
