Lieutenant General Sir Richard Hussey GCB GCH PC FRS (1775-1842) later Baronet Vivian created 1828 and Baron Vivian created 1841.
He was the son of John VIVIAN (1750-1826) of Truro by Betsey CRANCH, a British cavalry officer who served in Flanders and Holland from 1800 in the Peninsular War. When in command of the light cavalry in 1814 he took part in the action at Croix d'Orade on the Ers River, where he was severely wounded. During this action the 18th Hussars seized a key bridge intact helping to isolate the French defenders of Toulouse. His crest refers to this action. In 1815 he commanded the 6th Brigade and subsequently played a major part in the Battle of Waterloo, for which he was highly decorated. After the battle he remained in France as part of the army of occupation.
VIVIAN married firstly in 1804 Eliza CHAMPION and secondly Letitia WEBSTER. He left issue from both marriages and a natural son in 1802.
