Footnotes

The crest of the VESEY family of Abbeyleix, Queens Co., Ireland and the date of assay (1749) appears to relate to their elevation in the Irish Peerage from Baronet to Baron in 1750. This engraving may have been commissioned by Sir John Denny VESEY (died 1761), 2nd Baronet and 1st Baron Knapton. He was the son and heir of Sir Thomas VESEY (died 1730) 1st Baronet and married Elizabeth BROWNLOW daughter of William BROWNLOW. He was an MP in the Irish Parliament for Newtownard (1727-50). His son Thomas VESEY (1735-1804) was created Viscount de Vesci in 1776.
