The rare silver-gilt Nelson Battle of Trafalgar Bi-Centenary casket, 2005
marks for Richard Jarvis and Ian Calvert, London 2005
The hand-raised casket of rectangular form with curved sides, on bracket feet with simulated wave design, the front of the casket with a hand-painted enamel miniature portrait on 18 carat gold of Admiral Nelson, the reverse with his coat-of-arms, by miniature portrait artist Gillie Hoyte Byrom, the cover features a hand-painted scene of The Battle of Trafalgar, titled 'Breaking The Line' by miniature painter Commander Geoff Hunt RN, each miniature set within a ropetwist surround, each end panel is engraved with the depiction of the stern taffrail decoration of HMS Victory, and the dates for Nelson 1758 - 1805, by master engraved George Lukes, the interior is lined with oak, purportedly originating from HMS Victory, inside cover with a gilt plaque engraved with Nelson's naval campaigns, with certificate and presentation box, height 12.5cm, length 27cm and depth 17cm, weight total 80oz.
