Footnotes
The rarity of this early Audemars Piguet chronograph cannot be overstated. Between 1939 and 1942, the brand made only 5 in steel.
The workmanship of the dial is exemplary of the magnificent craftsmanship of 1940s dial-makers. With no applied elements, the fine printing with oversized XI and XII numerals is balanced by the horizonal axis of the subsidiary dials. The outer 1/5th divisions maintain the symmetry of the dial, while the blue tachymeter scale adds an unexpected touch of character. 80 years on, the finely polished steel hands still catch the light beautifully.
This particular example was purchased new by the consignor's grandfather, and has remained in the family ever since.
