ASAMI MASANORI (DATES UNKNOWN)

An iron suji kabuto and menpo
Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
Constructed with wide vertical plates coming together at the crown, the rear of the bowl rising slightly, and adorned with a five-stage shakudo and gilt chrysanthemum-form tehen kanamono, the front of the bowl decorated with a large sun in gold lacquer, the mabizashi and the fukugaeshi trimmed in shakudo fukurin, the fukigaeshi applied with stenciled leather and shakudo family crests of wisteria, the bowl mounted with a five-lame shikoro laced in blue with white and green highlights, signed on the interior at the rear Asami Masanori; the ryubumen with standing flanges on the cheeks, the teeth highlighted in gilt, fitted with a four-lame yodarekake laced in pale green
7 3/4in (19.6cm) high, the helmet only
