Unique Jepara Pallasite Section

Pallasite
Jepara, Indonesia

Jepara is a unique pallasite with excellent clear gem quality olivine crystals known as peridot. Most of the iron-nickel matrix was converted to magnetite after hundreds, if not thousands, of years of burial after its fall to Earth. A single, heavily weathered 499-kg meteorite of nearly spherical shape was found deep underground when the foundation for a large building was being excavated in Jepara, Indonesia. The present large section displays a brown-to-silver colored matrix filled with translucent clear olivine crystals. There are also small connecting portions of original, unchanged iron-nickel. A unique and valuable pallasite specimen. Weighing approximately 52.5 grams and measuring 3.9 x 3 in
