Esquel Pallasite
Pallasite
Chubut, Argentina
Discovered in 1951 by a farmer in Chubut, Argentina, the single 680-kilogram meteorite known as Esquel has been in great demand as the most beautiful of the rare type of meteorites known as pallasites. Esquel is rarely available on the market as the single discovered meteorite has been completely sectioned. Peridot crystals (the gem state of the olivine crystals found in pallasites) are the only known gemstones from outer space. The present specimen has been polished on both sides for maximum reflection of the iron-nickel matrix; it displays several beautiful, translucent, lightly shocked green-to-orange olivine crystals. Weighing approximately 18.5 grams and measuring 37 x 30mm
