A huali folding stool, xiaowu

Ming-style, 19th/20th century
The parallel beaded-edge seat rails carved with a xiangcai meander and drilled for a woven seat, the oval-shaped supports mortised, tenoned and half-lapped into the rails and and hinged at the midpoint with floral-shaped bosses, the supports extending to rectangular foot rests banded with metal straps at the borders enclosing conjoined lozenge embellishments, the top rails now joined by a rope seat.
