Probably London, The Galleries of the Federation of British Artists, Anna Zinkeisen: Portraits and other Paintings, 4-28 April 1962, cat.no.15
The sitter is Zinkeisen's daughter, the artist Julia Heseltine (b.1933). Commenting on the 1962 exhibition, a reviewer for The New Daily notes:
'In her daughter the painter found a lovely model and made the best of it. Julia is the Schoolgirl (no.52) looking straight at one, very serious, very fair. A little older, with hair a redder gold and bare shoulders, we see her in no.13 and again with her pet cat Starkey in no.15. These pictures are painted in precise detail in a clear, cold light. Julia is always wearing a black dress without ornament - only the hair is bright.'
We are grateful to Dr. Philip Kelleway for his assistance in cataloguing the present work.
