Footnotes

Provenance
Sotheby's sale, 25 May 1993, lot 33
Bonhams sale, 2 May 2018, lot 129

This fine glass belongs to a series of closely related mixed colour twist wine glasses all with botanical engraving, the stems either with blue, green or opaque green threads. Three glasses from this group, probably engraved by the same hand, were in the Julius and Ann Kaplan Collection sold by Bonhams on 15 November 2017, lots 60, 63 and 64. Another with a similar opaque jade-green thread was in the A C Hubbard Jr. Collection sold by Bonhams on 30 November 2011, lot 228. Further examples with related engraving from the Seton Veitch Collection are discussed together in Delomosne and Son's 2006 catalogue, no.43 where a Low Countries origin is suggested.
