A rare and large pewter-mounted Siegburg stoneware jug (Schnelle), third quarter 16th century,

Of slightly tapered elongated cylindrical shape with three widened concentric bands at foot and mouth, moulded with six circular medallions depicting biblical scenes, the three at the top showing Abraham and Isaac, the angel Gabriel appearing above them, the bottom ones with scenes from the life of Lot, the three oval centrally placed moulded medallions each with a large figure of David in cuirasse and helmet, a script banner reading 'DAVIT' behind the figures, all medallions brought together by moulded stylised floral elements sprouting from cornucopia and griffin heads protruding from the corners, the strap-handle mounted with a contemporaneous pewter lid with a moulded stylised rosette on the interior, 33.4cm. high, (small older restoration on inside of flange, small drilled hole to base)
