Footnotes

Provenance: The collection of Dr Eugene Antelis.

Mathieu Planchon had a shop at Palais Royal and was active c.1870-1900. A number of his clocks have sold through these rooms. He was often inspired by a Romanticised notion of 17th century European table clocks, which he 'miniaturised' and brought up to date with 8-day spring driven movements, lever platform escapements and travelling cases. It is easy to see why they remain popular.
