An impressive mid 19th century French giant gilt brass striking table regulator with centre seconds and gridiron pendulum

Aubert & Klaftenberger
The bold cornice over heavy bevelled glass panels to a plinth base applied with a polychrome enamel coat of arms, the signed 6.5 inch Roman and Arabic dial with matching gilt hands and blued steel centre seconds hand, the large square movement united by heavy turned pillars secured with nickel plated screws, signed along the lower edge 'Aubert & Klaftenberger, a Geneve', the deadbeat 'scape wheel mounted to the rear with adjustable pallets and jewelled faces, the heavy three-bar pendulum with fine screw regulation and beat adjustment, the substantial facetted lenticular bob with glazed centre revealing the rod terminals, linked via a rack and pinion to a recording hand reading against an enamel arc for 'Contraction' and 'Expansion.'

Footnotes

The firm of Aubert & Klaftenberger was created in 1835 by the international partnership of two watch retailers, the London based C.J. Klaftenberger and D.F. Aubert of Geneva. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought many watches from 1845 onwards, often as personal and state gifts. At the Great Exhibition of 1851 Aubert & Klaftenberger exhibited many clocks and watches and were granted an Honourable Mention from the Jury. In 1859 they were granted an official Royal Warrant.
