The movement by M.Boty Lefebure a Liege, the chapter ring signed Mertel
Surmounted by a twin-handled urn over elaborate lyre-shaped finials supported on a pair of female term figures raised on a moulded base with applied foliate scroll mount on toupie feet, the 6 inch white enamel chapter ring giving the date, Arabic quarters, Arabic hours, month and centre seconds (originally with centre seconds hand, now lacking), signed below the beaded bezel by the enameller G. Mertel, the twin train movement with a gilt sunburst pendulum, pinwheel escapement mounted on the backlate and skeletonised outside countwheel strike on a bell. 62cms high

Footnotes

Nicolas Boty was 'maître horloger' in 1770. One of his sons, Mathieu-Joseph, who married Maria-Ida Lefèvre in 1816, worked as clockmaker in association with him and later with Lefèvre.
