A FINE and rare mid 19th century ENGRAVED GILT brass CARRIAGE TIMEPIECE

J. F. Cole for R. & S. Garrard, Panton Street, Haymarket
The case with chased foliate handle with C-scroll terminals over concave columns, ball finials and a stepped base, the top panel, sides and rear door all engraved with scenes from the Age of Chivalry, including knights on horseback and heraldic devices, the silvered rectangular Roman dial engraved with flowers and scrolls with original blued steel fleur-de-lys hands, the movement with rectangular plates united by four screwed pillars, chain fusee to a platform with cut bimetallic balance with trapezoidal weights and under-slung lever escapement. The backplate signed "Made by J.F.COLE, for R&S GARRARD & Co, Panton Street, Haymarket." Together with an associated red leather case. Ticking. 5 ¼ in (13.3cm) high including handle
