A fine and rare mid 19th century gilt brass and coromandel giant "Mortar" timepiece

Thomas Cole, London, no. 1600
The gilt brass barrel finely engraved with a trophy of arms, set on a trunnion mounted on a shaped and moulded coromandel base, the silvered dial in the form of the cannon ball mounted in the muzzle with Roman chapter ring enclosing an engraved rosette in the centre, with original blued steel hands curved to follow the shape of the projectile, the signed movement with going barrel, vertically mounted lever escapement with plain three arm balance.
The base 16 ½in (62cm) long, the muzzle 7 ½ in (19cm) diameter
