maker's mark in Cyrillic 'IBS', possibly Moscow, early 20th century
finely painted, the robes of the Mother of God and Christ highlighted in gilt, with applied silver-gilt halos embellished with paste stones, in silver art nouveau oklad with engraved captions, pierced geometrical ornament, wood and purple velvet backing in a period wooden case with inscription: to highly-esteemed Fr. Yakov Nemolovsky from the grieving students V.Zh.U.D.V. Mother of God, with her bright face, remind this dear person of the holy boundless love of the flock, deprived of its dear shepherd, 84 standard

Born in the village of Vygnanka, Novograd-Volynsky district, Yakov Ivanovich Nemolovsky (1862 - after 1935) was a leader of Renovationism and, until 1924, bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church (Bishop Starokonstantinovsky, vicar of Volyn diocese).
