A Pair Of German Black And White Fingered Gauntlets
Partly Second Half Of The 16th Century

Of iron repainted black, each with widely flared cuff made in two pieces and with bright raised turned and roped borders, the upper border extending down the back of the hand and forming a shallow medial ridge, embossed and roped knuckle-plates, incised boss over the ulna, four articulated metacarpal plates linking the cuff to a shaped finger base plate, expertly replaced overlapping finger scales riveted to leathers, and hinged thumb-defences en suite (some pitting) (2)
