A German Or Swiss Hand-And-Half Backsword
Third Quarter Of The 16th Century

With broad single-edged blade double-edged for a third of its length towards the point, cut with a shallow central fuller over most of its length on each side and incised with a gibbet mark on one side towards the forte, iron hilt retaining some blackened finish and guard of robust bars of circular section comprising straight tapering quillons with moulded spherical terminals and small button finials, large side-ring above a smaller one on the outside and each with central moulded spherical feature, the lower side-ring linking the arms, inner saltire-shaped arrangement of bars with thumb-loop, large globular pommel, and leather-covered bottle-shaped grip (some loss of surface finish)
