A Venetian Shiavona
18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section struck with a shield mark on one side towards the forte, characteristic iron basket guard (some pitting) comprising flat radiating bars pinched-in and joined at the top to a wide flat bar pierced with chevroned trelliswork, inner triangular guard above a thumb-ring, curved rear quillon with spherical terminal, shield-shaped brass pommel with central circular boss on each side, and cord-bound leather-covered grip
