ART DECO AQUAMARINE AND DIAMOND BRACELET, CIRCA 1930

The octagonal plaques composed of bullet and shield-shaped aquamarines, accented by single-cut diamond highlights, alternating with six step-cut aquamarines, between shield-shaped aquamarine links, mounted in platinum, step-cut aquamarines very approximately 9.54 carats total, length 17.6cm

Footnotes

The composition of this bracelet is comparable with the aquamarine jewellery of Cartier London. From 1932, much of Cartier's aquamarine jewellery appears to have been produced by the firm's London branch for both their British and American clients. Correspondence between Cartier London and Cartier New York mentions a number of American commissions from the London branch and details the supply issues encountered by the firm owing to the rising demand for statement aquamarine pieces throughout this decade (see Rudoe, J. 'Cartier 1900-1939', London, 1997, p.263).
