Footnotes
The rare first edition of Thomas Martyn's large scale (one inch to a mile) map of Cornwall, which was normally issued in 9 larger sheets. A financially ambitious undertaking, Martyn's surveying project was underwritten with subscriptions, partly payable in advance and partly on completion. Some 164 subscribers also paid extra to have their coat-of-arms engraved in the border and their county seats named on the map.
