SUN YAT-SEN
Cabinet portrait by H.T. Thompson, SIGNED BY SUN YAT-SEN in black ink, gelatin silver print on on original thick card mount with tissue guard, tipped-in to original presentation folder (this with very slight creases at edges and chips at corners), mount 215 x 126mm., [1911?]
Footnotes
A boldly signed portrait in fine condition, presumably taken on Sun's return to China after the 1911 revolution. Thompson's portrait, with a similar signature, was reproduced as the frontispiece to Sun Yat Sen and the Awakening of China by James Cantlie and C. Sheridan Jones, published in 1912.
Provenance: Sir James and Mabel Cantlie; and thence by descent to the present owner.
