Footnotes

Like many craftsmen of his time, Josef Carl Klinkosch was born into a family of silversmiths, apprenticing and working at his father's shop until 1851 when he took over the trade. Klinkosch's business expanded exponentially, in particular by his partnership with Stephan Mayerhofer. Their participation in the 1873 Viennese World Exhibition and 1878 Parisian Exposition Universelle also accredited their work and highlighted their artistry. After his retirement in 1884, Klinkosch's two sons Arthur and Isidor held onto the family business for another generation until its acquisition by Arthur Krupp in 1918.
