Literature
Orkin, A Photo Journal, Viking Press, 1981, p. 48
Marilyn, one of "The Cardplayers", 1947 was a four-year old neighbor and the younger sister of "Jimmy the Storyteller", Every time I came home and saw her playing around my house, I would say to myself, "I have to do something with her, but what?" It took a year before the photographs materialized...
One of Edward Steichen's requirements for inclusion in "The Family of Man" was that there be "single pictures only...no sequences." When the exhibit opened, I asked Steichen why "The Cardplayers" were included. His answer, "Well, we couldn't leave little Marilyn out!"
