Footnotes
Tasting Note:
This exceptionally rare and old Port Ellen is an eclectic union of age, oak and smoke. After a fleeting scent of almond paste the nose becomes fruity, with hints of baked apple and dried orange peel, with yeasty notes of toasted rye and the smoky ghost of an extinguished fire. The texture is mouth filling: the taste is lightly sweet, fresh and fruity, and slightly acidic. An ashy and oily grill with cherry tomatoes, mackerel, monkfish wrapped in prosciutto. The finish strikes a mineral note, while the smoke lingers on.
