Footnotes

These works are after a pair of paintings by Benjamin Marshall (British, 1768-1835) exhibited as titled at the Royal Academy in 1812. Marshall's paintings were subsequently published in 1812 as a pair of engravings, these would later be reprinted with amended titles of 'War' and 'Peace'. It is likely that the present lots were copied after these prints, with the exception of the farmyard background which is the invention of the artist.
