Footnotes

The offered chairs were formerly housed in the large dining room at Pierremont Hall, Broadstairs. Possibly these chairs were originally at the Granville Hotel in Ramsgate which is not far away from Pierremont. The Granville Hotel itself was designed by E.W. Pugin.

Virtually identical designs for a side chair and armchair were originally illustrated in C. and R. Light's design catalogue of 1881, which appear replicated in The Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, 1989, Suffolk, pp.'s 231-3.
