The present work was once in the collection of famed opera singer and renowned collector, Maxim Karolik (1893-1963). Karolik amassed an impressive collection of early American antiques and fine art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston advised him on many of his acquisitions. He is credited for generating interest in early 19th century American Art with the donation of his collection to the Museum during his lifetime and was instrumental in securing for them Pictorial Quilt by Harriet Powers (1837-1910).
