The cushion-shaped diamond surmount suspending two knifewire drops set with similarly-cut diamonds, each side terminating with a rose-cut diamond in a foiled closed-back setting, to a fine trace-link chain, mounted in platinum, lengths: chain 38.7cm, pendant 5.3cm, cased by Hubert et Van Regemorter, 56, Rue de la Loi, 55, Bruxelles

Footnotes

This early 20th century diamond pendant is set with two well-matched rose-cut diamonds , it is unusual to find a matched pair of rose-cut diamonds of this quality and sizes : one of 9.2 mm x 8.75 mm and one of 9.1mm x 8.55 mm. The introduction of the multi-faceted rose-cut diamond can be traced back to the sixteenth century with the advancement of more sophisticated cutting techniques. In its original state, the rose-cut is formed of domed top with 24 facets and a flat base. The faceted domed top was intended to catch the light in a more effective way than the previously popular table-cut stones.
