A Du Paquier bourdaloue, circa 1735

The decoration attributed to Jakob Helchis, painted on each side with a putto and a monkey within an elaborate purple scroll- and strapwork frame incorporating iron-red flowers and embellished with squirrels and birds, the front moulded with a mask below a gilt scroll enclosed by swags and puce scrollwork, the handle moulded with a scroll thumb-piece, painted with trellis panels and flowers, the inside with Oriental flower sprigs, gilt-edged rims, 23.5cm across, red-painted MAK inventory number Ke 7517.20969 (very minor wear to gilding)

The attribution to Helchis is based on anatomical and stylistic similarities to the putti on the two small ecuelles signed in full by Helchis (in the British Museum (Chilton/Lehner-Jobst, cat. no. 329) and lot 6 in this sale).
