Footnotes

Provenance
James and Timmey Challenger Collection, Chicago

For a discussion of the 'Pottery that used a Large Impressed Crown Mark', see John and Griselda Lewis, Pratt Ware (1984), p.84. The figure of a sybil is of the type normally used for the finials of teapots, coffee pots and sucriers, often misdescribed as 'widow' finials.
