A 'Collier' Toby Jug, circa 1790

Of traditional form, seated and with a foaming jug in both hands resting on his left knee, a small barrel between his legs and a pipe resting on the base to his right, his face and hands painted in distinctive washes of brown, wearing a blue coat and breeches and a green waistcoat, the green chamfered base moulded with a border of flowerheads, 25cm high

'Collier' jugs are usually characterised by this curious moulded base. A very similar example was sold by Bonhams on 11 May 2005, lot 8.
