A Dan Armstrong/Rolling Stones poster for the Ampeg SVT
c.1969
300 Watts/ RMS/ Tubes SOUND / Ampeg SVT / Dan Armstrong. Poster printed in black and white.
Ampeg made its name in the 1950s with its bass amplifiers. The company was sold in 1968, after which musician and luthier Dan Armstrong (1934-2004) began to work with the company. Ampeg's powerful amplifier, the SVT (or Super Valve Technology) came to the rescue of the Rolling Stones' 1969 American tour. As they were rehearsing in Hollywood, their Fender amps were fried by the change in voltage. Their road manager reached out to an Ampeg rep, who provided them with several prototypes of the SVT, the only examples in existence at the time. The Stones were so impressed with the SVT sound, they used the amps for the entire tour. This poster was likely made up in the aftermath of the tour to capitalize on the new relationship between the band and the SVT amps. 34 x 22.75 in.
