An Elvis Presley signed script cover
1956
Comprising the cover of a script titled, "The Steve Allen Show / Sunday, July 1, 1956" in typescript, the verso of which features 3 inscriptions: "To Marilyn / from / Elvis Presley"; "To Marilyn / Thank you / Andy Griffith"; and "Hi Marilyn / Gene Rayburn." The front of the script features this inscription: "To Marilyn / All My Best / Imogene (Coca)." Presley's first appearance on Steve Allen's program was a ratings bonanza, despite the fact that he had received unwelcome publicity for previous television shows on which his performances were considered risqué. Capitalizing on that publicity, Allen toned down Presley's performance by having him sing "Hound Dog" in white tie and tails to an actual basset hound. Coca, Griffith, and Rayburn participated in the same episode. 8.5 x 11 in.
