Karen LaMonte is a highly acclaimed contemporary glass artist who is internationally recognized for her life-size sculptural dress forms, which are emptied of their occupants. LaMonte has explored various dress styles ranging from classical draped figures to the extraordinary kimonos of Japan.
Similar works to the offered lot, Young Bijin, were exhibited in the 'Floating Worlds' exhibition at the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum. LaMonte's work is in the permanent collections of many important institutions including the Corning Museum of Glass, the M.H. de Young Museum of Fine Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and many others.

Similar works to the offered lot, Young Bijin, were exhibited in the 'Floating World' exhibition at the Chazen Museum of Art and the 'Embodied Beauty' exhibition at the Hunter Museum of American Art. LaMonte's work is in the permanent collections of many important institutions including the Corning Museum of Glass, the M.H. de Young Museum of Fine Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and many others. A mid-career retrospective of her work was recently published by Rizzoli, with text by Arthur Danto, Brett Littman, Laura Addison, Steven A. Nash and Lucy R. Lippard.
